What kind of camera do you use?
I currently own and shoot with a Canon 5D MkIII. I also use a Canon 500D, Canon AE-1, Pentax MZ 6, Polaroid Land Camera and a Fujifilm polaroid.
What lenses do you use to take your photographs?
I own two lenses. The first is a 24-105mm f4 lens and the other is a very cheap 50mm f1.8.
I sometimes hire lenses for specific jobs such as weddings or fashion runways which are from Geelong Camera Hire.
How do you edit your photographs?
I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Lightroom to edit my photographs. I use Lightroom to retouch the colours in my images before importing them into Photoshop to edit out distracting parts of the image, blemishes etc.
Why aren't you studying photography?
I was lucky enough to study photography for a very short period in 2013. However, I found that I couldn't balance my studies, photography, work and relationships due to the long course hours and the three hours I would spend catching trains five times a week. I hope to one day return to art school when the time suits my lifestyle better and I have more money to dedicate to my medium.
What is Carolyn West Photography?
Carolyn West Photography is the name I use for my photography business that I promote primarily online. I use it as a way of separating the work that I do for money and the artwork or more personal photographs I take. I'm a registered small business with an ABN (Australian Business Number) and I photograph almost everything from events, food, fashion, families, portraiture, products, weddings etc. I am also available to travel if necessary.
How much do you charge?
My packages vary depending on what you would like me to photograph, whether there is travelling involved, how many people and what type of equipment I will need. For an invoice, please email me with a short description of what you would like and I can write up an invoice for you.
Who have you done work for?
Most of my work at the moment is local to Geelong and surrounding areas. I do frequent work for some clubs and societies at Deakin University and residential colleges at Melbourne University. I have also worked with both small and large businesses in Geelong and Melbourne such as Truffleduck, My Boutique and The Greens Victoria as well as non for profit organisations. I also contribute to Degenerate Magazine and Style Melbourne.
Do you have an assistant?
Yes, I have the amazing Daniel Belluzzo from A Created Mind who assists me on weddings and bigger events.
